Scissorwork

I bought some scissors a while back (“safe for children over 5″) and started letting the twins practice cutting paper under supervision.  Neither one has gotten the one-handed scissors feat down yet, and Claire gets frustrated with it and can’t cut much.  Ronin can prop up a piece of paper and cut away at it, [...]

In the mood for Fall

Yes, the Pumpkin Spice Lattes are back at Starbucks (I’m getting decaf), the leaves are falling, and the days are getting shorter.  We collected some leaves last week and  made little mice out of them.  Ronin keeps calling them “Creepy-Mousey” from a game my mom plays with them.
Contractors are here for the next few days, [...]

I got this idea from another mom, for a fun arts & crafts project that would provide longer-lasting fun.  First, we made binoculars out of cardboard rolls.  Then I put tape on the back of bird outlines I’d cut out, and stuck them up around the house.  Claire and Ronin used their new binoculars to [...]

Ronin seems to be on the mend, but Justin’s car is in the shop getting collision repair work done, so he took the van and the rest of us are staying at home and having a more restful day than we would otherwise.  We decided to try out a craft I saw in Family Fun [...]

I bought some foam sheets from the craft store and cut out shapes in various colors.  I spread them out on the floor and ask Claire and Ronin to bring me specific shapes and colors.  I can say “Claire, please bring me a purple rectangle” and she will!  Now that I have made it into [...]

Claire and Ronin and I made some poppies for Grandma Jan’s birthday.  We collected some sticks from the back yard (this was Ronin’s favorite part), cut out red petals, glued them onto a background, and then made a circle of glue and sprinkled poppy seeds in the center.  My cousin Lizzie is in town, and [...]

Claire woke me up this morning by throwing a book on my head.  However, we spent the next hour lying in bed and cuddling, so that was very nice.  Claire also made me (and both grandmas) some fingerprint daisy bookmarks.  They were very easy to make.  We cut out rectangles of green card stock and [...]

Justin is in Europe for two weeks, so this was our arts & crafts project for the week.  We used the same technique as for the scrap paper rainbow, but with a different design.  We had been collecting new and different colors as well, pinks and purples, without any firm goal in mind, and it [...]

We had an Easter brunch at Dinah and Manuel’s house.  Dinah distributed bunny ears for her guests.  I managed to get a picture during the three seconds they simultaneously wore them.
It was a really nice day for a brunch.  We sat out on the deck and it was sunny enough that we needed the umbrella [...]
