Little Farm

Last weekend we all went to Berkeley’s Little Farm in Tilden Park.  We took celery to feed to the goats and the cows and the sheep and the pigs and the fowl, put on our warm clothes because the hills were fogged in, and tromped around the pens.    Claire was a little nervous about feeding [...]

Playground fun

I started back to work this week, finally, after being off since late May.  It’s very exciting for me, and I’m still catching up on all the changes since I was last there.  The twins are really happy to be spending more time with their grandma, but they’re probably not going to like their frequent [...]

I got this idea from another mom, for a fun arts & crafts project that would provide longer-lasting fun.  First, we made binoculars out of cardboard rolls.  Then I put tape on the back of bird outlines I’d cut out, and stuck them up around the house.  Claire and Ronin used their new binoculars to [...]

Discipline

We have just lately started doing time-outs for the most egregious acts of misbehavior.  Claire has now had two time-outs and Ronin has had one in the past two months.  I bought a little timer and set it for one minute, and we use an empty corner of the office and have the child sit [...]

Paging Dr. Ronin!

My aunt Linda just sent a huge box of toys for Claire and Ronin.  It included a doctor costume and a doctor kit, a Little Hardhats DVD, a toy train, a couple of real cell phones (batteries removed), and some stuffed animals.  It has been non-stop excitement over here.
Both children are well on their way [...]

Ronin seems to be on the mend, but Justin’s car is in the shop getting collision repair work done, so he took the van and the rest of us are staying at home and having a more restful day than we would otherwise.  We decided to try out a craft I saw in Family Fun [...]

Ronin is sick

Poor Ronin!  We were all set to go to the twins’ first princess party today.  Claire has a princess dress hanging up in the closet and Ronin was going to wear his new wizard outfit.  However, last night Ronin was a little restless and wanted to move over to Justin’s side of the bed for [...]

Last weekend we went to the Bay Area Discovery Museum.  It’s a little ways away, in Sausalito, so it means a 45-minute drive to and fro even without traffic, but I think it’s my favorite kid-related activity center so far.    We left after nap/lunch and still didn’t have time to visit all of the areas [...]

We had our two-year appointment today.  I was under the mistaken impression that they would be getting immunizations, but happily for all of us I was wrong.  They were weighed and measured.  Throughout the appointment, Dr. Phu kept expressing amazement at how much better Ronin was doing, weight-wise, and I did mention that we’d been [...]

Mom and I took the twins to Children’s Fairyland last week.   It’s the park that started the whole concept of theme parks, and it’s only one highway exit away from me.  Frank Oz of the muppets worked there, doing puppet shows as a teenager.  The founder had a vision of “fairytale and storybook sets [...]
